God’s Love Beyond Reason | God Becomes To Us What Our Need Demands

Have you heard this statement being said GOD IS LOVE?

If you are like most of us, you know it and sometimes reason with it and ask questions like:

  • If God is love then why all the suffering in the world?
  • What about all the hungry people who don’t get to eat today?

There are so many more questions we can ask. But did you know when the bible says God is Love, It means so much more than we can understand?

A Love Beyond Reason

The Name Of God

In the bible, names hold a sacred place. Names are not just given to people because it sounds cool to call someone with that. Rather behind every name there is the “character of the person”. Surprisingly the names of God given in the bible have two fold meanings. Firstly the name conveys “Who God Is”. Secondly it is about “Who God is to us”. Now let me list few of these names separately.

Who God Is :

Elohim – The Almighty God
El Eloha – Mighty
Elohim – Creator, Mighty and Strong
El Shaddai – Power over all
Adonai – Lord and Ruler over all
Yahweh – One True God.
Yahweh Elohim – LORD GOD
Yahweh Sabaoth – The Lord of Hosts (Armies)
El Elyon – Most High
El Roi – All Seeing God
El Olam – Everlasting God
El Gibhor – Mighty God

Who God is to us

Yahweh Jireh – The Lord Will Provide
Yahweh Rapha – The Lord Who Heals Me
Yahweh Nissi – The Lord My Banner
Yahweh M’kaddesh – The Lord Who Sanctifies and Makes Me Holy
Yahweh Shalom – The Lord My Peace
Yahweh Tsidkenu – The Lord My Righteousness
Yahweh Rohi – The Lord My Shepherd
Yahweh Shammah – The Lord Is There

God as who he is, has become to us what we need.

I marvel at the love that God has on us humans that he chooses to call himself with names, which has our need as the centre. O Look how much he loves us. Let us Marvel at his love. Love is not the emotion we feel, though it can accompany emotions. Mature Love has the person we love and their need at the centre. Loving the unlovable is only possible by this kind of love and Yes! we can love people with this love. God loved us so much that he gave himself for us on the Cross while we were still sinners. (Romans 5)
